The first time I really remember hearing the sound of a didgeridoo was in secondary high school when our music teacher taught us about didges and made us listen to some clips. The sound did not feel terribly special to a prog-listening teenager as it is essentially one interminably long note. Our teacher told us to concentrate on the sound and once I let myself be absorbed by the gentle drone I realised that it was indeed something worth teaching kids half a world away from Oz. I felt the sound resonate within me soothing my mind body and soul. This is how I remember it at least. It's been quite a few years since that and I did not become an enthusiast then. The seed of fascination was planted however and here I am a few years later waiting for my first didgeridoo to get delivered. |

First I heard here on Rio a guy playing hang drum on a Prainha Beach and I started a deep passion for exotic sounds and instruments unknown. After searching for hangs videos I found both instruments together on YouTube video...Now I uncovered a new world of possibilities |

I have heard it on media from long ago but didn't know what or how the sound was made until a few years ago. I did know it was Aboriginal though. It has a hypnotic quality to it that rattles the bones. I played French horn in school and it reminds me of being in the midst of a concert band...feeling...not just hearing the music. I've not heard didgeridoo in person yet though. |

I have heard didgeridoos in various fashions growing up but only really came to enjoy the didj as a musical instrument upon hearing Xavier Rudd play it. It is a very full-bodied and tribal sound that ties the mind of the player to those of their audience in a way that no other instrument can. |

Well I have heard a Didj before this year but it was only last weekend I was lucky enough to (by coincidence) see Iian 'Sika' Rose playing his Didj... It was the most incredible sound it vibrates through every cell in your body - and although I bought 2 albums of his Didj music the bodily vibration is missing unfortunately so I need my own instrument now!! |

I went to a outdoor gathering of people and music and there I saw a couple of guys playing these long wooden instruments. It was like love at first site. The one guy called Kevin took me under his wing and spent time with me to teach me how to makes the sounds and then to circular breath. He helped me make my first PVC didgeridoo to practice on. |

It was introduced to me by a fellow tree-planter friend/ traveller on my first year as we were resting in the forest. On the next day off he showed me how to build one with a PVC pipe. A friend of a friend went kayaking with us on a small river and he brought his didge that he has had for some 18 years. I had heard "about" didges before but never knew anyone that played so well...he is from Australia and was very knowledgeable. We climbed up on top of a cliff overlooking the river and you could see for miles and I carried his didge up to him so he could play... it was a surreal experience |
