It was my first visit to a Shaman's home and I had no idea what to expect. After introductions and minor conversation Laurie the Shaman brought out her singing bowls and rattles for a cleansing. And it turned out that a first time attendee had a didgeridoo with him. He played it in sync with the bowls and drums and rattles and it was just wonderful. |

I first heard the sounds of a didgeridoo when I stopped and visited a town called Alice Springs. Nice quaint and cosy town. I went into "The Sounds of Starlight" and met Andrew Langford. I spoke with him and Andrew explained the history and the dynamics of the didgeridoo. I attended one of his didgeridoo classes and was immediately passionate about this instrument. The sound really touched deep inside my soul and I knew that I wanted to pursue and learn more if not everything that I can about this awesome (ancient) instrument. I bought two didgeridoos from Andrew Langford's gallery. I attended a couple more of his classes. Andrew Langford taught me how to breath through and play the didgeridoo. |

A friend who went on a 2 month outback adventure in Australia came back with an inauthentic (not made by aboriginal people) didgeridoo. We still thoroughly enjoyed playing it the effects it had on our minds and of course I had to get my own. I'd like to believe mine is authentic however it was not clearly stated from purchase. I use it everyday to relax and center me. I feel much more clear headed and optimistic after didging. Scientifically didging allows my brain to operate at a high Theta or low Alpha brain wave state - meaning 7-9Hz. Mother Earth's electromagnetic field operates at 8Hz. Didging attunes me to Mother Earth. |

I went to a night time bon fire the moon was bright and 2 guys were playing the didgeridoo with drummers that were like background. It gave me chills and I just could not stop thinking about how I was going to learn to play that thing. I set out to do just that. I can now circular breathe and play my didge in my own style. |

My first experience was on the discovery channel which immediately hooked me onto the wonderful and exotic sounds the instrument makes. I love the deep waving sounds that distinguish it from any other instrument on the whole planet. I first heard one in person by a friend of mine who made one out of PVC pipe. It sounded very cool but I am still looking forward to my first chance to hear an authentic didgeridoo played in person! |

I first heard a didge (and knew it was actually a didge) when I first played my own that I received randomly on my 15th birthday. The first time I heard it played well however was shortly after when I looked up videos on how to play it on YouTube. But neither of those experiences compared to when I first heard the instrument in person when I was receiving an individual lesson from a friend of a friend who happened to play. It was well worth the wait as he had been playing for many years and was quite talented. |

I was in the 4th grade in computer lab at the time. There were two options of software to "learn" from: one was an art program the other was instruments from around the world. When I played the Australian instrument which stated the name of it first before the audio file played I was hooked. I played it many times to just hear it as well as to remember the name. |

When I first heard the Didgeridoo played I was travelling. I feel in love with the sound. I tried playing and it took a while but I got the basics down with breathing. I then met a fellow traveller who had a didgeridoo he could make really cool sounds. I travelled with him for a while and he showed me some pointers. In the end he gave me his didge and said he was impressed with my progress and that started my musical journey with the didge. |

During a land occupation in Vienna in May 2013 I learnt to play the didgeridoo. I was going through a rough patch in my life already since a couple of years but when I joined the military I was less and less satisfied with society and myself but I was in a loving relationship which allowed me to overlook a lot of the things I was unhappy with. In December 2012 in my first year at university after quitting the military everything really went to bits and pieces. I was torn between the expectations on me coming from my family my friends and my girlfriend. I had neglected most of all myself and my body. My relationship fell apart and initiated a very intense and dark period. I was thinking incessantly the amount I slept decreased and I was waking up just to think about the universe and life. While it provided deep insights I got caught up in circular thoughts trying to find the answers to questions I couldn't with words. I was aware that there were no answers and that "feeling" was the solution but most of the time I couldn't stop thinking and in the moments I did I was catapulted into explosive meditation leaving my body or having tears of blissfulness at the beauty of the moment. Probably these experiences were so intense because they were the only relief I was getting from the otherwise unbearable way of being. All this amalgamated into a massive headache that became my companion. However one day while jogging I saw a land occupation and stopped to see what was going on there. There was a Serbian guy there playing the didgeridoo and I asked him if I could try it. I sat by a deep well and began to try and play one note into it. I hit the note quite easily and after 5 minutes of playing my headache was gone and I was amazed at the power of this instrument. For the next three days I sat at that well almost all day and people were coming to sit with me and listen giving me also the social validation of the processes which I was going through. I was learning step by step not to think anymore. When I tried to think I would mess up and break off the sound. When I tried to think about how to make new sounds I would mess up again. The didgeridoo was my teacher showing me in a straightforward way how much I had left the path that I saw myself taking as a teenager with all the energies of youth in my sails and offering me a way to stop thinking and enjoy something other than the realms of my thoughts. |

It's a very distant memory. I just recall the very emotionally evocative sound not the situation. I like abstract music and that was probably my first experience of it. (I do not yet have a didj or know how to play. Experimenting with circular breathing listening to didj music and looking forward to making my own starter PVC didj very soon! Thank you for providing so much information on your site! I'd put a bamboo didj in my Amazon shopping cart then decided to learn more before buying -- and fortunately your page on didj materials came up!) |
