Name and Country How many times have you been to Australia? How many times have you met Australian Aboriginal people? Please share your perceptions and impressions of Australian Aboriginal people
Michael from USA Never 1 I'm very impressed by their ability to live in an extremely harsh environment and by their close connections to nature. (I'm convinced that their ability to survive stems from their close connection to nature.) They are a people that have my utmost respect
David from USA Never Never I do not have many perceptions other than their love for nature and their connection to their environment.
Anonymous from USA Never Never They are strong spiritual people that believe in peace
Gerhard from Austria Never Never Appreciate them very much for their special spiritual approach
Jared from USA Never Never Don't know much about them besides the fact that they make and play the didj. And I'm grateful for that!
Margaret from USA Never Never Mostly from Crocodile Dundee curiosity about the dreamtime a calendar of art and beading a sleeve for my didge from the artwork "First woman and her dingo track the emu." Sleeve and didj lost in a house fire.
Calvin from Australia Aus 10+ I believe that many of our Aboriginal people in the towns and cities have lost their way. Certain aspects of European culture have not been a good influence. Leaders like Warren Mundine are well respected and now with Mr Abbott a Prime Minister who genuinely cares about our Aboriginal people can hopefully be the means of improving their lot and contribution to society. As another has said we need to 'give them a hand up and not a hand-out'. Their pride has suffered under decades of social welfare which although well meaning has not been the best we could do for them in every case. If you help a man to help himself he retains his dignity and becomes a valued contributor to society. I have visited some of the co-ops in Alice Springs and it is wonderful to see talented people producing such unbelievable art selling it and doing well.
Graham from New Zealand 5-6 5-6 Having Senator Neville Bonner as a member of the greater family was very impressed with his cultural beliefs and his acceptance of us as white people not knowing his cultural beliefs.
J Never 1 The person I met was kind and very intelligent
Genevra from Australia Aus 10+ People are people where ever you go. if we knew this at the beginning there would be only sharing and learning to discuss between peoples n no daft questions like this. no offence:)
Anonymous from USA Never Never That they are a very proud and traditional people.
Edward from United Kingdom 1 1 I found and still find the Australian Aboriginal People to be a proud race. I feel I sense of awe when I was in their presence. The history and knowledge that they possess is remarkable and something to be cherished respected and preserved for future generations. I would love to meet with them again and learn more. One Love and JAH Bless
Rich from USA Never Never Fascinated by what I've heard and read about the culture...especially their telepathic communication with each other and whales. Would love to visit/live/study with them.
Anonymous Never Never Me sorprende la lucha que llevan al conservar su cultura y su estilo de vida durante tanto tiempo.
Anonymous Never Never Intriguing
Eric Kubisch from USA Never Never Very religious to their backgrounds and beliefs which they have done for a very long time.
Anonymous from USA Never Never Oppressed group that is very in touch with nature
Daniel Rennert from USA Never 1 I saw a man playing a didgeridoo while I was going on lunch break. Lets just say I didn't eat lunch and stood their listening to this fascinating instrument... I gave him my last 20$ that I had and now I vow to spread the didgeridoo knowledge that I have threw YouTube videos etc. Would be better to show them the actual instrument though.
Tony Mosley from USA Never 1 Met a guy at an Arts Festival with Didgeridoos talked and bought one on the spot 1yr ago. I like to think I am doing good on it now
Michael Spring from USA Never Never Abused. Wise. Earthy
Filip from Austria Never Never I haven't had the chance to meet or experience them but just to imagine a society where playing/meditating with the didgeridoo is an established part of their culture or the walkabout speaks for the importance they see as a society in self reflection about our existence on this planet and in nature. As with all aboriginal peoples I think they hold deeply important lessons for the industrialized world which in the pursuit of social and technological progress in such a rapid time had undoubtedly overlooked aspects of the soul or been unable to predict what effects their efforts for progress will have had on the soul.
Kai Lehrke from Canada 1 10+ It varies I always have great respect and admiration for these magical ancient people but living in Australia for 2 years one also gets to see how difficult and diminishing life is in a white society and how much they lost from their tradition.
Anonymous from South Africa Never Never Similarly to American Indians and South African Khoi & San people Australian Aboriginal people and culture have been severely damaged and done great injustice by European colonizers. The impression I have from Australian Aboriginal people is that they have a very ancient culture that is in deep harmony with nature.
Anonymous Never 1 Per me personalmente sarebbero un'ottima compagnia quotidiana e molto altro...
Anonymous from USA Never 1 Very nice person
James Miller from USA Never 1 They appear to be more down to earth than the Native American folks here in the US. Also like their native language and their accent. There is definitely something unique about these people they have a majestic aura about them - no matter the environment
Anonymous Never 1 They are earth-keepers just like other native people around the world. they have kept the sacred relationship with mother nature so that the rest of us can re-learn and remember our true nature.
Anonymous Never Never Based on the book "voices of the desert" I think they're the last specimens of humans.
Grace from USA Never Never Most of what I think about Australian Aboriginal people comes from Australian films. Recently saw a good short feature on David Gulpilil very thought provoking. I had a co-worker who told me about suffering from severe post-traumatic stress from being in the Korean war & eventually learning about by chance and finding great comfort in Australian Aboriginal spiritual concepts including the dreamland. I hope that these people are able to retain their unique culture. I'm aware that there are poverty issues among them also.
Tom De Vlieger from Netherlands 1 5-6 Some are really nice!! But the ones who live more in the south are pretty weird..
Lee from USA Never Never I know little about them. I think they are very in tune with and adapted to their environment.
Kurt Jones from New Zealand 5-6 10+ They are amazing and friendly people I admire the way they have so much pride in their history and culture and are so happy to share this with you
Elizabeth Huestis from USA Never 1 Very kind and perceptive. Honorable. Wise. Respectful of Mother Earth. Resourceful. Much like the traditional Native Americans ethics.

Nathan from Australia Aus 10+ Warm intelligent friendly and very in touch connected and aware of the environment around them.
Callum Rutherfoord from South Africa 3 1 The native men and women of the vast land of Australia. Living their lives chiselled from culture made up by many spiritual aspects and not conforming to the ways of the western cultures. Free-living spirited people.

Marin from Germany Never Never Humble people try to stay in connection with nature.
Tony from Australia Aus 10+ Same as everyone else I take everyone as they present. I envy their culture and would love to learn more about their's and this countries history.

Anonymous Aus 10+ I have great respect for all indigenous people in this world. I would like to gain more of their knowledge. They are the ones still in touch with nature which most of us westerners have lost. We have a lot to learn from them.
Chris from USA Never Never They appear to be quiet and unassuming very committed to keeping the ways of their ancient forefathers intact for future generations.
Craig from Australia Aus 3 The ones I met were nice friendly people. I have also sailed with seaman from Thursday island and we became good friends
Bill from USA Never Never A great and earth-wise people who have been marginalized and pressed down by an overarching intrusive outside culture. Strong people deep people.

Bradley King from Australia Aus 10+ There my people as I Aboriginal
Matt Luebbert from USA Never Never I have an outstanding respect for the aboriginal people and their ways. I love that they only take what they need I stead of want and that they ask mother earth for it first. If more people in society did this the world may be a better place. I hope one day I can go to Australia and play didj with the aboriginal people.
Joe Terhljan from Canada Never Never It's kind of difficult to have a perception or impression of anyone that I have not met. However based on North American history I would say that the Australian Aboriginal people were and are probably discriminated against and their culture suppressed...I only hope that they have not & do not succumb to all of the social problems that culminate from this treatment.
Diane Sampson from New Zealand 9-10 10+ I have always since a small child loved their Art I remember when I was in my teens I watched an old aboriginal man carve me a boomerang and he threw it and it came back to him I was in awe. I Still have it.

Federica from Italy Never Never Non li ho mai incontrati ma sono molto aperta alle altre cukture
Harrold from Netherlands 1 10+ There seems to be a large alcohol problem at least with the aborigines one meets in the towns. I met some very friendly very open and very ambitious aborigines who's company I much enjoyed but I met quite a few annoying drunkards as well. It's sad to see such a clearly rich culture being disgraced like that.
Mel from USA 2 5-6 We were in Queensland for a bit over a week and we met a number of very nice and helpful Aboriginal people. They seemed generally interested in our travels and were really great to talk to and learn from. Two individually helped me learn a lot bout how to play a didge and I appreciated it very much. So much so I bought one when I was in Kuranda along with other Aboriginal art that I bought and took home to friends and family.
Suzanne from Netherlands Never Never With pain in my heart I heard about the exploitation of the Aboriginal people and their culture. I think it is a wonderful culture! So close to nature. I'm very happy to hear that more and more Aboriginal people are returning to their roots:)
