American indians |
There were/are many differing tribes. Some peaceful some hostile. They held sacred the earth it's elements and the life it supported. They wore "paint" more often during times of battle. They danced in celebration and rituals. Most of them lived in Teepee's some in mud houses or cliffs. Could go on but I'm sure you're not looking for books. |

There are several different tribes and types of indigenous in Canada so this would be a long winded answer however they could be summed up as Native Americans when referring to them as a whole. |
What do you want to know the Europeans raped and pillaged their land when they discovered Canada and continue to lose their culture which is a sad sad state of affairs. They differ from the Aboriginals found in Australia with ceremonies instruments art clothing etc being different. They sleep in tipi's smoke tobacco ceremoniously. Several wonderful books have been written about them both fiction and non; the most recent that I read was Tay John and Blue Marrow. |

The First Nations aboriginal peoples |
There are MANY different tribes of first nations people. Some nomadic some not. In my province the two predominant tribes are the Cree and Blackfoot. Both were nomadic and relied heavily on the buffalo hunt. When Europeans moved into the area they hunted many of the buffalo for sport which endangered the way of life of the Cree and Blackfoot people. Musically "the drum" typically a shallow handheld drum with crossbars similar to that of an Irish Bodhran was very sacred and used commonly in ceremonies and celebrations. Sometimes at Pow Wows they would use a larger stationary drum similar to a timpani in groups of 5-6 per drum. |

There are no indigenous people of Portugal. In the Past we had the "Lusitanian" people the original people from Portugal and the Celt |
Portugal has been for many centuries a passage way for many peoples and civilization both by land and by sea as it was in a important place between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea travel routes. So as a people we are a result of these mixing influences. |

Many many tribes referred to as Native Americans or just Natives. The natives where I grew up are Mi'Kmaq and the natives where I live now are Cowichan |
I don't know any cowichan tribe members because I just moved here but I am friends with some Mi'kmaq. Originally they had seasonal homes that they moved around to living in Wigwams. Wigwam comes from the Mi'kmaq "wikuom" a dwelling. (It's a tent like structure covered with birch tree bark). I could go on. |

Felipe Gallo from Colombia |
In Colombia we had many indigenous tribes such as the Muiscas/Chibchas the Wayu the Arhuacos the U |
The most heard of these tribes are the chibchas/muiscas because their beliefs gave up the source for the legend of "El Dorado" amongst the conquerors which was meant to be a city made up of gold! However nobody has ever found this city but the true origin of this tale; the sacred lake of Guatavita is the place where the chibchas made their offers to their gods which consisted (mainly) of craft sculptures made up of gold. They also had another sacred lake near the town of Villa de Leyva called Iguaque from where Bachue (a woman/goddess) emerged with Bochica (a 3 year old child) who would later grow to marry her and populate the Chibcha tribe. When the tribe had grown and where self-sufficient Bachue and Bochica got back into the waters of Iguaque and transformed into two snakes diving to the bottom of the lake... The Chitchat people use their musical instruments for ceremonial purposes as well as for giving rhythm to their labours (carrying stones hunting etc). Their main instruments were drums and different types of aerophones such as ocarinas and flutes. |

They are the original land dwellers of Australia who lived on this land long before European settlement. |
This is something I have found out a lot about via this site... I am a psychology student who is currently writing an essay on the Federal Government Intervention of the NT. And I am sorry to say that previously I did not know that much about the Intervention at all. Nor did I know much about Aboriginal Culture. What I have found out since has left me shocked and ashamed at what our Government have been allowed to do talking about the Intervention. And also deeply touched and moved by the original Aboriginal belief systems and their history. I have met many Aboriginal people but none of them have known much about their traditions when I tried to speak to them about it. This is saddening to me as they are such beautiful people. I am proud to be able to learn more about them as my research for my essay continues. |

Native Americans are the native peoples of America |
They migrated to America from Asia during the ice age and flourished until Europeans came. They had advanced societies that were complex although Europeans thought they were primitive. In north America there were many great tribes and leagues such as the Cherokees and Iroquois League. In South America there were also great cities and civilizations that were wiped out by disease when Europeans came and were lost forever. Now in the USA there are reservations for Native Americans where many are allowed to have casinos and try to practice their culture. |
Rick from USA |
The indigenous people of the USA are any of the people that existed on the continents before the arrival of imperial colonialism. These include many tribes of many different human beings and they were America's first people. |
I know that culture is important to them as I am also Sioux Native American. The People are noble in their ways and look for a balance between themselves and nature. However the establishment of the reservation system has not been the best for the People. Drug abuse is incredibly high along with sexual abuse and alcoholism. The system forced on the Native People needs to change. The People want to be able to live freely. To walk a path of balance between the world of technology and the world of traditions and nature. |

Many different people now commonly know as Native Americans |
The Anasazi from the southwest part of the USA (the states of Arizona New Mexico Utah Colorado) are among the most mysterious having disappeared without much trace and leaving behind beautiful cities some built into caves (Mesa Verde) that are still accessible today in various National Parks. Unfortunately the European colonization and industrialization of the North American continent decimated much of the native population and the most authentic communities remaining now reside on 'reservation' lands scattered throughout the country. Respect for and familiarity with the land and its natural resources is one of the overarching characteristics of the native AMericans in general much like the AUstralian Aborigine. |
