The widow of a man who died in custody has disrupted Darwin court
proceedings by accusing a prison guard of murdering her husband.
A coronial inquest found Douglas Bruce Scott hanged himself in jail in
1985.
But his widow, Letty Scott, is trying to prove in a civil trial that he
was killed by prison guards.
A prison officer who was on duty the night Mr Scott died gave evidence
in the Northern Territory Supreme Court today.
He told the court he saw Mr Scott hanging from the ceiling.
Mr Lawson said he heard stomach noises coming from Mr Scott and checked
for signs of life.
But he told the court he did not attempt resuscitation because he
believed Mr Scott was beyond help.
During questioning, Mrs Scott yelled out on several occasions, calling
the witness a murderer.
The judge threatened to remove Mrs Scott from court if she continued to
disrupt the proceedings. |
