Australians with positive stories or experiences about Indigenous
employment are being invited to make submissions to a new federal
parliamentary inquiry.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee is
conducting the inquiry, focusing on successes in Indigenous employment
around the country.
Chairman Barry Wakelin says the committee will identify the factors
contributing to these successes and use the information to develop
future policy.
"It's very important that people with an interest and experience and
with stories of experiences of positive outcomes for employment for
Indigenous people participate and that's what we're looking for," he said.
"We've heard too much bad news about Aboriginal issues and we're very
interested in looking at the positive and how we might celebrate that.
"All over Australia I know of examples where positive things have
happened and we don't hear enough about it and I'd hope many of those
will come forward and talk to the committee about it and we'll be out
there looking for that to happen." |
