One of the alleged ringleaders of last year's Palm Island riot has
lodged a legal appeal in a bid to return to the island.
Alleged rioter John Major Clumpoint says his bail conditions, which
prevent him returning to the island, are too onerous.
Last month, a Supreme Court bid to alter his bail failed when Justice
John Muir found it was still too early for him to return home.
Today in the Court of Appeal, Clumpoint's barrister Brett Walker SC
argued circumstances on the island have changed and cited the recent
visit of the Queensland Premier to Palm Island.
The Crown argued Clumpoint was lucky to to be granted bail in the first
place because he was allegedly a ringleader in the riots.
The three Appeal Court justices reserved their decision. |
