The federal Labor Party says services are suffering at Kakadu National
Park because of the Howard Government's decision to abolish entry fees.
The Federal Government says some services have been rationalised, such
as helicopter use, but it says it is part of a wider move to improve
efficiency across all national parks.
The Government says Kakadu National Park will receive an extra $4
million each year to compensate for the loss of funds from the entry fee.
But Labor's Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, says there is just not
enough funding.
"This park has not been funded appropriately over the past few years,"
he said.
"There are requirements to address run down capital in the park,
including infrastructure at the various park ranger stations, these are
the sorts of issues which require long-term management." |
