The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has destroyed a dingo that approached a baby at a Fraser Island
resort in south-east Queensland.
District Manager Rob Allan says the dingo was found near the Kingfisher Bay Resort last night.
He says it had distinctive markings,
including a dark tail.
Mr Allan says it was put down so that it would not pose a risk to the island's visitors.
Earlier, Aborigines on Fraser Island
threatened legal action to stop the killing of a dingo that approached a baby in a resort.
Indigenous leaders said resort should have had a
dingo fence around it in the first place.
But Queensland Premier Peter Beattie was unmoved.
"The fact is if you look at the dingo numbers on their island, they
are not at risk," Mr Beattie said.
"When these incidents occur, the rangers on the island... clearly understand the rules.
"If there is a threat to
human beings, the dingoes are shot... end of story." |
