Rare Aboriginal photos go to private collector

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 6 October 2004

A pair of 19th century photo albums containing images of secret Aboriginal ceremonies sold at auction last night for $155,575.

Sotherby's says a private collector from Victoria out-bid the National Museum of Australia.

The photographs were taken by two of Australia's most important anthropologists, Sir Walter Baldwin and Francis Gillen.
