There is a growing number of requests from indigenous Queenslanders for information on their personal and family histories. The Community and Personal Histories Unit currently receives about 80 requests every month from people trying to contact their families of origin and locate their traditional lands. Queensland Families Minister Judy Spence says many indigenous people have suffered from past government policies and the service is a vital part of the reconciliation process. "It's a little known unit to most Queenslanders but it's been doing a lot of important work," she said. "It's been established for 10 years now and over that time has provided historical information to over 1000 indigenous people throughout Queensland." |
