The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) wants to establish a protocol with Northern Territory police to prevent attacks on Aboriginal people in Darwin. ATSIC is meeting with police today to discuss a series of attacks on seven Aboriginal people in Darwin in one night last week. The Northern Zone Commissioner, Kim Hill, says a coordinated approach to tackle the problem needs to be developed. "I think it gives a demonstration to the community that there are you know police officers and various groups and stakeholders like ATSIC working together in protecting and providing a safe environment for all people living in Darwin." |
