The Northern Territory's annual Figjam concert featuring local indigenous bands, will take place in Jabiru this year for the first time. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Performing Arts organisation has received $6,000 from the Government towards funding the event in June. Its Darwin-based manager Mia Christopherson, says in the week leading up to the concert, skills development workshops will be held. "It's inviting people from Darwin to get out and experience Kakadu, it's such a beautiful place to actually see bands performing in their own environments," she said. "People from Jabiru have to travel to Darwin to get this sort of entertainment, so we thought it was an opportunity to give something back." |
