Extract from Australian Broadcating Corporation - ABC Online, on June 10th, 2002.

Aboriginal group buys 50 per cent share in WA dolphin resort A Western Australian Aboriginal group has purchased a 50 per cent stake in the famous Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort at Shark Bay on the State's northern coastline.

Under the deal the Yadgalah Aboriginal Corporation will hold a 23 per cent stake of the resort; Indigenous Business Australia will own 27 per cent and 50 per cent will remain with the previous owners.

An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) grant and loan of $3.2 million helped to fund the joint venture.

ATSIC's Mick Gooda says the deal will empower Yadgalah people to create their own income, as well as providing training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people in the region.
