The first meeting of a working party created by Australian liquor licensing commissions will get underway in Alice Springs today. The Territory's Licensing Commission says the meeting will be attended by delegates from all mainland states. Peter Allen from the commission says the meeting's objective is to come up with a set of strategies and initiatives to deal with the excessive consumption of alcohol by Aborigines. "Representatives from other states, particularly the outback states like Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland, will be giving presentations to the group on the sort of strategies they've been implementing similar to but different from, say, the Tennant Creek restrictions and the Alice Springs restrictions," Mr Allen said. |
