Stolen Generation orphanage developed into retirement village

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 10 May 2004

An orphanage that was home to Aboriginal children of the Stolen Generation in the 1930s and 40s is to be developed into a retirement village to house many of those same residents.

Gerry Warber, 72, lived at Sister Kate's Children's Home in Perth for 15 years after his mother died when he was two.

He says after 70 years the orphans of Sister Kate's still share an affinity for each others' company.

"They're the only brothers and sisters that we've ever had in life and I think it's great that we can live in the place there and enjoy each other's company virtually till the end of our days," he said.
