The New South Wales Opposition's police spokesman, Peter Debnam, says the Redfern riot is a result of years of neglect.

"In Redfern we see problems every year or two and there's a very good reason for it," Mr Debnam said.

"There is no law and order in some of the streets.

"There are no basic services being delivered in many areas of Redfern and the Government has failed to deliver the redevelopment that's been promised almost annually by Bob Carr over the last 10 years."

Premier Bob Carr says he will recieve a full briefing from police on last night's events later this morning before commenting publicly.
