Independent review suggests new look ATSIC

An independent panel set up to review the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) has found there is very little support for the way it is performing. It says ATSIC has reached a crisis point in public credibility and its relationship with the people it represents. But the panel says there is overwhelming support for retaining a national body to represent Indigenous interests and it has proposed four options for remodelling ATSIC. The panel is now calling for public comment on its discussion paper, before it produces a final report for the Federal Government in September. |
