Aboriginal activist given good behaviour bond

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 6 April 2005

An Aboriginal activist has been given a 12-month good behaviour bond for stealing a bronze coat of arms from Old Parliament House in Canberra.

Kevin Buzzacott, 58, was found guilty of stealing the plaque by a jury in the ACT Supreme Court.

The jury deliberated for more than four hours before reaching the unanimous verdict.

In sentencing, Justice Terrence Connolly paid tribute to the defendant's work for his people.

Defence lawyer Len Linton says he will appeal the verdict to the High Court.
