NT's Indigenous art copyright proposal yet to go to Fed Govt

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 9 August 2003

Northern Territory Attorney-General Peter Toyne says he is yet to deliver a letter to his Federal counterpart detailing the NT Martin Government's proposals on Indigenous art are copyright.

The Government first outlined its proposals months ago in response to debate over copyright for Albert Namtijira's art.

Mr Toyne said last week he had signed the letter and would deliver it while meeting with Federal Attorney-General Daryl Williams in Canberra.

He says the letter will be sent soon.

"We've certainly prepared the letter and it's signed off by me," Mr Toyne said.

"I am still trying to get a discussion with Clare Martin as Arts Minister to just clear, to make sure it correlates with what they're doing in the arts."
